Individual and small group instruction (9 years old and up) is available for absolute beginners to more experienced turners. Students will learn skills ranging from selecting and preparing material, sharpening tools so that they are safe and effective, understanding grain direction as it relates to form and function, finishing, embellishing and more! Dovetail Wood Arts welcomes students for single sessions (minimum 3 hours) and also designs programs for multiple visits and objectives. Suzanne always discusses your goals before class and prepares accordingly so that when you come to the studio work begins right away. In order to support enrolled students, they are welcome to use the extensive library and email Suzanne with questions.

Located on 11 acres, there is an abundance of turning material available on site from trees that have fallen from storms, age and/or disease, including ash, oak, cherry, and hickory. Reclaimed wood and lumber from local saw mills is also used when appropriate. The studio is equipped with six woodturning lathes, from mini to massive. There are plenty of cutting gauges, two sharpening stations, an extensive library, wood burning and carving equipment, finishing media from oils to milk paints, and examples of objects made on site for inspiration and for sale.
